In 1921, Gabrielle Chanel asked Ernest Beaux to develop a “woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent.” The perfumer presented her with a visionary expression that made unprecedented use of aldehydes. Mademoiselle chose the fifth sample and decided to name it simply N°5. For this new composition, she selected a bottle with a revolutionary design, adorned with a white label and topped with a faceted cabochon. In 1986, Jacques Polge reinterpreted his predecessor’s work to imagine a fuller version of the now and forever fragrance: the Eau de Parfum.

COMPOSITION

The Eau de Parfum draws inspiration from the original Parfum, which shares the same floral-aldehydic signature. This bouquet, composed around rose and jasmine, features bright citrus top notes. Aldehydes create a unique presence, while the smooth touch of vanilla yields an incredibly sensual trail.

ART OF PERFUMING

Mist the bottle generously and use the Twist and Spray wherever you are. To open the portable version, twist the bottom to the right to expose the atomizer.
